The World T20 is just three months away and this 2-match series provides both teams an opportunity to size up each other and also provide them a chance to observe their own game closely in order to expunge any chinks in the armour.

Sri Lanka:
This year 2012 may not have been a great year for Sri Lanka as they ended up on the losing side more times than not. But skipper Mahela Jayawardene will be be expecting his team to put that behind and look at the series against Pakistan as an opportunity for a fresh start. It has been about a month and a half since Sri Lanka last played international cricket. But one cannot term the team as rusty as some of the key cricketers have been an active part of various teams in the IPL. The Lankan side is a well balanced one with the right mix of quality players in the line-up. While Kumar Sangakkara, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Jayawardene form the core of the batting order, the likes of Dinesh Chandimal, Upul Tharanga and Chamara Kapugedera provide an ideal blend to the batting order. The Island nation also possesses good all-rounders in the form of Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera, who have proven to be match-winners in the past. The bowling department is well-manned with the likes of Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Isuru Udana forming the pace attack while Sachithra Senanayake and Kaushal Lokuarachchi provide the spin option. Overall, the home side is made of a quality bunch of players and the skipper will be hoping that they fire in unison.

Pakistan:
It has been more than a couple of months since Pakistan last played international cricket and there have been many changes to the side that won the Asia Cup on March 22. Misbah-ul-Haq is no longer part of Pakistan's T20 team and the side will be led by a new skipper in Mohammad Hafeez. The current Pakistan squad is a mix of youth and experience. While some of the seasoned campaigners like Hafeez, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Saeed Ajmal and Umar Gul bring in years amount of cricket into play, youngsters like Ahmed Shehzad, Hammad Azam, Raza Hasan, Umar Akmal and Haris Sohail complete the line-up. Also returning to the side after a gap of about 1.5 years is Mohammad Sami. As always, Pakistan boasts a quality bowling attack which is capable of running through any batting order. Gul and Sohail Tanvir are the key pacemen while the spin department has quality players in abundance - Ajmal, Afridi and Hafeez are world-class spin bowlers and there is also the 19-year old Raza Hasan, whose brilliant performance in the domestic circuit has elevated him to the national side. There are no problems for Pakistan as far as bowling is concerned but the new captain will be worried about the batting department as it has shown a tendency to capitulate under pressure in the recent past. Hafeez will be hoping that the batsmen are up to their task going up against a quality bowling line-up as the Lankans.
